Not long ago, we stopped by a customer’s house after finishing a project. He laughed and told us his family was using the patio more in the last month than they had in the previous two years. The only thing that had changed was the addition of some retractable patio screens. The furniture was the same. The view was the same. But then, all of a sudden, this space became comfortable enough to be used on a daily basis.
When we hear from our homeowners that they love their patio, but when the insects come, it becomes a different story. Anybody who spent an evening outside in Connecticut knows what we are talking about. You have your nice evening, the weather is just right, and the mosquitoes show up. Retractable screens will take care of the problem without closing you in. When they are not necessary, they’re gone, out of your sight, and they become visible the moment you need them.
The sunshine is another factor that makes people think about installing their own retractable screens. There are some patios that are literally roasted in the afternoon sun. We had customers who said that they would never go to certain areas in their backyard at certain times of the day because it was simply not comfortable. The screens will reduce heat and glare, but keep the open feeling intact.
Privacy is something that often gets overlooked. Not everybody wants to have their life on full view whenever they decide to leave their homes. Screen rooms can provide just enough privacy from the neighbors while not isolating you completely from the surroundings. This is often heard from people who live in the recently built neighborhoods where homes are being constructed much closer to each other. They need some privacy when using their backyards without having to sit right on the road.
Here at Signature Outdoor Living, we helped to install the screen rooms for many families with different needs. Some needed protection from the bugs. Some needed extra shade. Others needed a way to enjoy the backyard they spent money on even more. But no matter what the cause was, the effect is the same for all of them. The owners tell us that they stay outdoors much more often than they used to. And that’s the whole idea of a patio or porch – not something you only use once in a year or two.
